Irish Language TV Ads

Barry's Tea "Strangest" (IIBBDO 2007)

Barry's have raised the bar again, this time recording the Irish language version simultaneously with the original English commercial on set. Actors speaking to camera in Irish is still a rarity in ads and so captures a special attention from the audience.

Power of One "Eco Driving" (Cawley Nea /TBWA 2007)

This is one of a series of 6 ads re-voiced in Irish for the Power of One campaign. We sourced all the voice-over artisits to include a teenager and a 9 year-old with fluent Irish and studio experience.

Club Energise Sport "Fuelling the Passion" (Cawley Nea\TBWA 2004)

This ad won "Irish Language TV ad of the Decade" by public vote in 2006. We copy-tested the Irish slogan we created, "Scaoil an fuinneamh" (lit. release the energy), for its appeal to both fluent and non-fluent speakers of Irish. C&C Ireland found that the RTÉ audience preferred the Irish slogan and increased the airing of the Irish ad as a result.

Avonmore "Soup Stings" (IIBBDO 2007)

Avonmore sponsors the weather forecasts on both RTÉ & TG4. Rather than go for a direct translation of their line "Busy time on the production line" we used an idiom natural to the Irish language (the greeting we make to anyone seen working hard – "God bless the work!"). The irony works equally as well in the context of the visuals.
